Violinist Johanna Röhrig and Hamburg-based guitarist Johann Jacob Nissen have found a perfect artistic partnership in their shared music-making. Both share a profound passion for the repertoire of the Renaissance, Baroque, and early Classical periods. At the same time, they venture with their warm and multifaceted soundscapes into the passionate world of tango and contemporary works.
Johanna Röhrig, whose training took her from Hamburg to the Royal Academy of Music in London, is an internationally active soloist and chamber musician. With her vibrant, nuanced playing and deep musical sensitivity, she brings an extraordinary expressiveness to the duo. Johann Jacob Nissen is a sought-after guitarist known for his sensitive accompaniment and his virtuosity on various plucked instruments, especially the theorbo.
The ensemble captivates with the exciting combination of violin, guitar, and theorbo – three instruments that shine as solo voices and engage in a rich musical dialogue. This creates a fascinating versatility that brings both well-known masterpieces and lesser-known works to the stage in a fresh light.
Together, Johann and Johanna have developed three concert programs that open up a wide range of musical pleasures for their audiences: from early Baroque works to Classical and even specially arranged audience favorites for their unique instrumentation. They also explore fiery dances spanning the ages, inviting listeners to experience an emotional and atmospheric musical journey.
