RUNGHOLT ENSEMBLE – IDOMENEO

20. June, 19:30 - 22:00

- 46€

Premiere on 12th of June 2026

A king, an oath – and a god who does not forget.

On the way home from the Trojan War, Idomeneo, King of Crete, is caught in a life-threatening storm. In his greatest need, he asks the sea god Neptune for salvation – and promises him the first person as a victim he meets on land. But fate plays cruelly: it is his son Idamante of all people who receives him on the shore.

Between divine demand and human horror, an inner and outer storm begins, which covers all the figures: father and son, the two king’s daughters Ilia and Elettra – they all struggle with grief, longing, guilt and the hope of a new beginning after the war. And all this is impressively reflected in Mozart’s music.

With “Idomeneo”, the then 25-year-old Mozart presented a masterpiece of emotional power and musical brilliance. The opera, composed in 1781 for the Munich Residenztheater, marks the beginning of his maturation. Virtuoso arias, finely drawn characters and a highly dramatic orchestral part make the work a musical force of nature.

Performance duration: 2 hours 30 minutes – including a break

For the opera “Idomeneo” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johanna Röhrig will be heard as concertmaster of the Rungholt Ensemble.

The opera will be performed in a concert chamber orchestra version at the AlleeTheater Altona under the direction of Ettore Prandi.
