ETTORE PRANDI – COMPOSER PORTRAIT

30. June, 19:00 - 23:30

- 35€

The annual composer’s portrait at the Kunsthalle Emden occupies a prominent position in the festival calendar of the Tide Concerts. It is far more than a concert; it is an intimate encounter with contemporary sound art and its creators, a space for discovery and deep discussion.

This season, with Ettore Prandi (*1974), a fascinating voice of contemporary music comes into focus. The connection between Prandi and the Gezeitenkonzerten is a personal one: Matthias Kirschnereit has already worked several times with the composer, pianist and conductor living in Hamburg. From this artistic friendship grows this year a program of rare exclusivity, which underlines the importance of our festival as an engine for new music:

The audience will witness three premieres. To experience are the premieres of the Sonata for violin, the 3. Sonata for piano (2026) as well as the work “Gāyanam” for voice and ensemble. These novelties are complemented by chamber music works such as the “Bagatelle a die verlorene Zeit” and the trio for violin, horn and piano.

Prandi’s musical language is characterized by a cosmopolitan education in Milan, Hamburg and Paris as well as formative encounters, for example with the Dane Per Nørgård. His works are sound research, which is often inspired by natural elements and the study of worldwide folk songs. Especially the spiritual world and tradition of Northern Norway are a central source of his melodic and philosophical inspiration. It is a music that deals intensively with the phenomenon of time – or as the Norwegian composer Magnar Åm formulated it: one hears in it the light and an “element of timelessness”. These works are interpreted by a top-class ensemble with Matthias Kirschnereit, Johanna Röhrig, Tomás Figueiredo, Lucas Schwengebecher and Lilia-Fruz Buhakova.

An evening that stops time for a moment.
